Tina Fey Does It Again! September 27, 2008

Yes, that’s right! It’s 11:31 p.m. on Saturday night, and my ass is planted in front of the TV, because SNL has been absolutely amazing so far this season.

Last week’s second episode, hosted by James Franco (drool) scored a 5.8 rating/14 share in the metered markets. The episode, which also featured musical guests Kings of Leon, continued the season’s impressive debut with viewership up 41% from over last year’s second episode.

However – the show got even better in the opening segment tonight when Tina Fey returned as Sarah Palin.

Paul Newman 1925-2008

It’s a sad day for the movie industry. It was announced earlier today that screen legend Paul Newman passed away at his farmhouse home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.

Surrounded by his family and close friends, he succumbed Friday after a long, private battle with cancer.

“There is a point where feelings go beyond words,” two-time costar Robert Redford said in a statement. “I have lost a real friend. My life – and this country – is better for his being in it.”

Sally Field, Newman’s costar in the film Absence of Malice, (which I happened to just watch in my Senior Seminar class) said, “I was blessed to have known him. The world is better because of him. Sometimes God makes perfect people and Paul Newman was one of them.”

Paul was involved with more than 80 films and TV productions, and was nominated for an Oscar an amazing ten times. But perhaps more noteworthy than his acting abilities, Paul will be remembered for his charity work.

He started Newman’s Own, which since 1982 has made popcorn, spaghetti sauce, lemonade and salad dressing and has donated more than $250 million to charities that have been selected by Newman himself.
