UPDATE #7: Travis Barker/DJ AM Plane Crash September 21, 2008

Promising news comes from Augusta, Georgia for Travis Barker and DJ AM!

The medical director of the burn unit treating the two said Sunday morning that both men, who are critically injured, are expected to make full recoveries.

Dr. Fred Mullins of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors’ Hospital in Augusta said at a press conference that Travis and DJ AM are being treated for second and third degree burns.

Recovery from this may take as long as a year, but the two suffered no other injuries from the crash. “Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn’t suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected,” Dr. Mullins said. And even though recovery could take up to a year, Dr. Mullins doesn’t believe so. He said, “I would expect it would be much sooner than that.”

He also noted that Travis suffered burns on his torso and lower body, and DJ AM suffered burns on his arms and a portion of his head. And they are currently in the ICU at the hospital.

The doctor refused to comment on their emotional state, but did say of burn victims that “45 percent of all patients have some emotional trouble.”

Dr. Mullins also noted at the press conference: “The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them their families and friends is requested at this time.”

My personal thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and friends during this time – and of course, continuous prayers go out to Travis and DJ AM.

UPDATE #4: Travis Barker/DJ AM Plane Crash

Lindsay Lohan and her galpal Samantha Ronson have taken to their blogs about this tragic event. And while not on “record,” they are the first to comment about the incident – most of Travis and DJ AM’s celebrity friends are still too shaken up to comment publicly…

my good friend adam (dj am) was in a plane crash last night, he was lucky to survive but is still in the hospital being treated for burns (so i read). i don’t really know what to say, it’s such horrifying news, but i was hoping you guys would please send him your best wishes/prayers because I don’t really know what else to do. also for travis barker, who was on the plane. four other people were on the plane and did not survive, i can’t even imagine the pain their families must be in. soooooo sad and i’m so sorry.

UPDATE #5: Sad, sad rumors have been formulating saying that Travis’s assistant Chris “Lil’ Chris” Baker was flying home to LA to be with his pregnant wife. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case – she’s not pregnant. However, he is recently married and left behind a 2-year-old son.

UPDATE #6: The Learjet that took off carrying Travis and DJ AM apparently had no mechanical issues, and the FAA flight records for the Learjet show that it had flown without incident less than hour before the crash. The jet was most recently in a hangar at Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, N.J.

According to the records, the jet made a routine one-hour, 26-minute flight from Teterboro to Columbia (S.C.) Metropolitan Airport Friday night, arriving at 11:08 p.m. And less than an hour later, the plane attempted to take off with its passengers.

“Something must have gone wrong on the ground,” says an FAA source. “It appears the plane had no mechanical issues.”

UPDATE #2: Travis Barker/DJ AM Plane Crash

Reports are now surfacing that a man came across the inflamed jet and saw the former Blink-182 drummer and DJ stomping and swatting to try and extinguish the flames by ripping the clothing from their bodies.

“We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do,” William Owens told CNN affiliate WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. “I felt ill or sick to think that these lives were snuffed out at that point.”

Both were said to be in critical, but stable condition last night, with extensive burns.

An eonline.com report says that a friend of DJ AM’s said that he is “really really badly burned, with burns over at least 50 percent of his body – mostly on his face,” whereas Travis’s are “mostly from the waist down.”

UPDATE #3: Mourners have gathered at Travis’ store Fast Life in Los Angeles. Travis’s friend and assistant who was killed in the crash, Chris “Lil’ Chris” Baker, managed the store.

Spotted at around 1 p.m., people gathered at the store, and a motorcycle adorned with yellow flowers and a t-shirt was placed outside.

Staff working at Fast Life declined to comment, but sources say that the vibe inside was shocked and somber.

“There’s no music on, people are sitting or standing quietly,” one insider said. “The staff is shuffling stock around the floor.”
