In More Album News: Andy Samberg! December 14, 2008

I love him for this.

SNL member Andy Samberg’s debut album Incredibad (hahahaha) is set to come out on February 10.

The album is from his project Lonely Island, his three-man musical group consisting of Andy, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

The album is also set to feature Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Norah Jones, and Jack Black AND will include a combination of songs from SNL – yes, including “Dick in a Box.”

Here’s what Andy had to say: “We definitely wanted it to be a classic comedy album, but also one you put on more than once. We’ve gone out of our way to make it musically pleasing. We started on a few songs that were not funny enough, for us, but they sounded pretty cool. And the bottom line for the project was, ‘Is it going to be funny first and music second?’ I think it’s 95 percent music, and we hope people would throw it on and bump it.When we did ‘Dick in a Box’ — and that’s what most people know us for — it’s an uphill battle from there.”

Pretty impressive, no?

Sarah Palin on SNL! October 19, 2008

So Sarah Palin finally appeared on Saturday Night Live last night, and it was pretty hilarious.

The following is taken from People.com, word for word, because I’m far too lazy to write about it all:

Watching backstage as Fey did another spot-on impersonation – this time holding a press conference – Palin told Lorne Michaels, executive producer of SNL, “I just didn’t think it was a realistic depiction of the way my press conferences would have gone.”

Mark Walhberg joined them, looking for Andy Samberg to “bust his head open” after a sketch aired last week, in which Samberg played Walhberg talking to animals.

“He didn’t like the impression we did of him on the show,” Lorne explained to Gov. Palin.

“Tell me about it,” Palin answered back with a smile.

Enter 30 Rock star (and frequent SNL host) Alec Baldwin, who addressed Palin as “Tina.”

“You can’t let Tina go out there with that woman,” Baldwin told Lorne. “She goes against everything we stand for . . . They call her, they call her – what’s that name they call her?”

“That’d be Caribou Barbie,” Palin answered.

Once Lorne introduced the candidate to Baldwin, he told her, “You are way hotter in person.”

Her reply: “Why thank you . . . and I must say, you’re brother Stephen is my favorite Baldwin brother.”

Baldwin then walked over to the podium where Fey was continuing her impersonation – “the only poll I care about is the North Pole” – and informed her that the real governor was there. Dressed identically, the two women crossed paths but did not speak as Palin replaced her doppelganger at the podium.

That’s when Palin uttered those famous words, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”

Later in the show, Palin bobbed her head  (and even raised the roof!) to the music while Weekend Update host Amy Poehler performed a rap about the governor’s vice presidential campaign.

SNL is on FIRE! October 6, 2008

This season of Saturday Night Live has been nothing short of amazing. Perhaps it’s due to Tina Fey’s skits as Sarah Palin, or the fact that the show has had some really REALLY good hosts and musical guests.

Whatever the case may be, the show’s fourth episode (hosted by Anne Hathaway/musical guest: The Killers), averaged a 7.4 household rating/18 share in market. It was up a whopping 49% compared to last season’s fourth episode.

This weekend, there was a spoof of the VP Debates, with, of course, Tina as Sarah Palin, and surprise guest, Queen Latifah as debate moderator Gwen Ifill.

ABC News political director David Chalian said, “Clearly, Saturday Night Live and Tina Fey’s spot-on creation of Sarah Palin is now a part of this election season. It does show a frame through which a lot of people see these candidates.

Tina Fey/Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler/Hillary Clinton from this season's first episode

Yes, that’s right! It’s 11:31 p.m. on Saturday night, and my ass is planted in front of the TV, because SNL has been absolutely amazing so far this season.

Last week’s second episode, hosted by James Franco (drool) scored a 5.8 rating/14 share in the metered markets. The episode, which also featured musical guests Kings of Leon, continued the season’s impressive debut with viewership up 41% from over last year’s second episode.

However – the show got even better in the opening segment tonight when Tina Fey returned as Sarah Palin.

More to come tomorrow, when videos and pictures will be available!

Stay tuned!

Amy Poehler Leaving SNL! September 17, 2008

Filed under: Amy Poehler,SNL,TV News — Alexandra @ 8:12 pm

Ah, this is extremely upsetting!

According to the Los Angeles Times, Amy Poehler told Men’s Vogue that she will be leaving SNL after the November election (presumably so she can still portray Hillary Clinton) to get ready to prepare for the birth of her baby – and she won’t be coming back!

“It’s gonna be really hard — Boyz II Men hard — to say goodbye to yesterday,” she said. “SNL was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down.”

On the upside, she has signed on for the upcoming Office spin-off, which is set to air sometime next year. And she’s nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for SNL.

Check in this Sunday night to see if she picks up the award!

Olympian Michael Phelps hosted the 34th season premiere of Saturday Night Live this past Saturday, and boy did we tune in to see his sexy bod! Bam chicka wah wah.

It debuted with a 7.4 rating/18 share in the metered markets. The highest local-market average for an SNL season premiere since back in 2001. The 34th season opener also saw an increase of 64% from one year earlier on Sept. 29th with a 4.5/11.

Maybe it was the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin & Amy Poehler/Hillary Clinton skit too.

Tina Fey Does SNL! September 14, 2008

As I had posted earlier, rumors were circulating that Tina Fey would be making an appearance on SNL as Sarah Palin.

Well . . she did! Tina and Amy Poehler (playing Hillary Clinton) opened the show together and addressed the issue of sexism in the campaign.

Oh, and Tina NAILED Palin’s accent.

Funny shit. Watch it! — Until I figure out how to embed it.

Live From New York It’s…Tina Fey? September 12, 2008

Yup, yup! Word on the street is that ex-SNL vet Tina Fey may be returning to the show to play Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin.

Annnd Tina may appear as soon as this Saturday’s season premiere!

According to SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, “There are discussions [with Tina],” Michaels said during a conference call with reporters. “They are ongoing.”

Although current cast member Casey Wilson has also read for the part of Palin, fans have been posting pictures online of Fey and Palin alongside each other to point out their similarities.

Yea… they sure as hell look alike.
